Cambodian Well

It's a start!

I sent away the money from the sales of the book and was able to get a family their very own well. I think they share water with their neighbors though so it helps others too.

If you read the previous post, you will know that it's been a dream of mine for years and even though it's not what I had in my mind, it's better than not trying to help at all. I was happy to run across Karen and Bennett who are part of the Lantern Projects.

I hope it's only the start of many wells.

It was dug and installed on January 20th and was the 3rd of 16 wells.

It's located in: Momeanh village, Rolous commune, Prasat Bakong district  Siem Reap province.

The husband's name is Soam Sam Oll, and he is 35 years old.

The wife's name is  Sie Sopheap, and she is 34 years old.

They have 2 children, but I wasn't told their names.

 But she sure looks happy!!!

Thanks again to those of you who bought the book and enabled me to help get water to this family.

We DID It! Jesse's First WELL!

Today I mailed the first check to a non-profit to pay for a well to be dug, a hand pump to be installed and five water filters given to the people in a remote village in Cambodia!

Amazing to have a dream come true!

It's different than I had imagined, BUT IT'S REALLY HAPPENING! I had always thought that it would take thousands of dollars to get a well dug, and matter of fact, for most NGO's (Non Government Organizations) that is indeed the case. For that reason, I thought it would take me years to get a well to dedicate to Jesse.

That changed this past summer when I was on a sabbatical from trucking to take a road trip. (My car broke down so it all changed, but...) I went to my old church in Summit County Colorado, and saw the photos of Karen and Ben Little and the wells and pumps they were putting in Cambodia through their organization: Cambodia Rural Wells. I was thrilled when I saw the amount needed! "That is totally doable," I thought with excitement!

I had stepped away from the book a couple of years ago for personal reasons, but came back to record and produce an audio book, and I will be putting some time into marketing. You do know why marketers get paid so much... it's difficult to get things out there; and be noticed. But it's not impossible!

When the book first came out, I sold some copies, had about 10 or so honest reviews on Amazon (which I now know isn't too shabby since I didn't beg anyone for them), and I made a little money. That money sat in Create Space (how I published the book) for over 2 years: because of a silly technicality, and my ignorance! But, the good news is that I still had that money, instead of having given it to a big NGO where it wouldn't help NEARLY as much! Well, after talking to Karen and Ben last week, I decided that instead of donating only 25% of the proceeds from the book so far, I would give this whole amount. I hadn't missed it, so why not!

Karen and Ben go through a wonderful organization that gives 100% of any donation to the project supported. This amazing lady's site is Lantern Projects. There is a lot more to this story, but what is important is this: I thought it would take much more money to dig a well in some village in order to help people get water, and with other locations, countries and people, it would. But now, I am going to be able to help more people with less money! Does it matter whom I help? Nope! People who need water are everywhere.

My hope and prayer is: "This is only the beginning!" Because of this new connection, I will be able to help many more people! Yes, indeed, all things happen for a reason! Yee haw! ;-)

Launching Jesse

Well, launching her book.

Not as in launching her-- like she used to do when she jumped out of the truck. I am having a book launch at the local Pet Valu store in Okotoks in Alberta. It's on March 9th, 2013 from 1-4 pm and it will be fun to be around other dog lovers. There will be a drawing for a $20 gift certificate for Pet Valu with the purchase of a book. So c'mon and join in the fun and get yourself a book about a silly but wonderful dog named Jesse! Remember, I'm donating 10% of all proceeds to helping people get water. Details will be available there.

About jumping. Someone asked me why I didn't put her inside the cab. Well, during the summers in Tennessee, it was too darn hot, she would have died. So the alternative was for her to stay in the truck bed, which she did most of the time.

The times when she jumped out were sporadic and unpredictable. But at least she did it only when the truck was stopped, so she never hurt herself. Yes she misbehaved, but I just couldn't stop her, and I didn't want to leave her at home. She was my buddy and companion to be with all the time, not just when she was good.

See you Saturday... Cheers! Patti

Kindle Has Arrived!

Me 'n Jess is now available on Kindle! Yahoo!

It was a process getting all the files right and exactly as they should be and thank goodness for Amazon and their continuing development of KDP as to facilitate the process! I didn't even have to convert to a kobi file... for all the HTML people out there... ;-)

KDP stands for Kindle Direct Publishing and what an amazing program they have! Wow I have learned so much these past couple of weeks being a publisher! But it's worth it as I think the book looks pretty good! Between the paw prints, bones and shamrocks, I think it's a fun book.

Ok, have to get to work on the audio book... Over and out for now! Cheers!

Me ' n Jess is Published!

Today was the day. I pushed the magic button. Full speed ahead Rudolph! Oh wait that was last month.

This month? A new story hits the air waves of the dog book world and I am so excited because I have already had orders from Tennessee to New Zealand and it's only just begun! The website is being built as things progress and the next hurdle is Kindle. Formatting files and graphics and all can be frustrating but I am almost there. Then it's other e-readers and finally an audio book. Can't wait. Should be a fun thing to record.

Good thing I made a movie! I am sure having learned the editing part and different software will come in handy. Ok, gotta go. Lots to do...Cheers!

It's Almost Here!

The proof is in the pudding. Actually the proof is in the mail.

I am awaiting the hard copy of my book "Me' n Jess" and am very excited. I wrote the book in 2001 but it was put aside to make a movie. "Did I Say Thousand Island?" was premiered in 2007 and has been seen all over the world. My mission of raising awareness and funds for the Global Water Crisis with my movie continues on with my book. The difference is that now instead of giving away the book for free--which I did with the movie for over 5 years, I'm going to sell the book and give a portion to various water non-profit organizations. I already have contact with many orgs and now you can actually help me help people get water, just by buying the book. Cool eh?

I'll post again when it's ready, so you can come and meet Jesse too! Cheers, Patti
